Flight of Parakeets was an installation made during my time as artist in resident at Cultureland – based in Amsterdam, and Starnmeer, in The Netherlands. During my time there I became interested in Amsterdam’s population of feral parakeets as a symbol of resilience and adaptation to modern life, and began working on a series of woodcuts depicting them. The final result was a two-part installation of a flock of woodcut parakeet sculptures (edition of 52), which hung in the storefront of the studio in Amsterdam, as well as in Starnmeer, accompanied by a paper bird-like airplane.
